Edition of 50: 30x30 cm
Limited edition digital collages by Maiko Kikuchi, New York-based Japanese artist.
Maiko's practice was initially influenced by her father, who is a psychoanalyst. Through his work, she became interested in the boundaries between dreams and reality.
Making daydreams visible or tangible is a continuous theme of Maiko's work. She defines daydreams as another world that humans can bring into existence, walking the tightrope of so-called boundaries while questioning the “unusual” versus the “usual”.
With this collection, Maiko portrays still moments of daydreams that are inspired by recurring motifs in her daily life. Collaging both hand painted and printed materials present in her imagination, those once familiar motifs transform into something unfamiliar, creating unexpected stories. She aspires to present audiences with a window frame rather than a picture frame, allowing them to get lost in their own daydreams.
